Removals Case study

A Move From Honiton to Upottery

We recently helped a customer move from Honiton to Upottery. As is typical for anyone planning a relocation, they had received a few quotes before making their decision, with prices all sitting within a similar range.

In the end, the customer chose East Devon Removals because of the service they received before the move had even begun…

A strong first impression from the office

When customers are comparing removal quotes, price is only one part of the decision. For this move, the customer had gathered a couple of other quotes, all coming in at around the same figure, give or take roughly £100.

What made the difference was the level of customer service they received from Emma in the office. Her quick responses, clear communication and helpful approach gave the customer reassurance at an important stage of the process. Moving home can feel like a lot to organise, so having someone reliable and responsive from the outset helped make the decision much easier.

Adapting quickly when plans changed

A couple of days before the move, the customer unfortunately broke their shoulder. This meant they needed extra help at short notice, with more support required than originally planned.

Although this came up late in the process, it was no issue for the team. We adjusted the required resources and ensured the move could still proceed smoothly.

Unforeseen situations like this are exactly where experience and flexibility make a real difference. Rather than adding extra stress for the customer at an already difficult time, we were able to respond quickly and make sure they had the practical help they needed.

Specialist help for the customer’s fish

As part of the move, the customer also needed their fish transported safely. To make sure this was handled properly, we teamed up with Hembury Contracting, who supported us with moving the fish to the new property.

They were a dream to work with, and we cannot recommend them enough. Bringing in the right support meant this part of the move could be handled with the care it needed, while our team focused on the wider removal.

It was a good example of making sure the customer’s belongings, including the more specialist items, were properly looked after from start to finish.

Managing access on a busy day in Upottery

When the team arrived at the new property in Upottery, there was a potential parking complication. It happened to be the children’s sports day nearby, which meant the area was busier than usual and parking was more limited.

Fortunately, this did not cause any delays. The team managed the situation calmly and kept the unload moving as planned. Access and parking are often among the trickier parts of a house move, particularly in villages and residential areas, so being able to work around the local conditions on the day helped keep the move on track.

Getting the wardrobe upstairs in one piece

Once inside the new home, the team came across another challenge. A wardrobe did not appear to fit upstairs in the usual way, which could easily have meant taking it apart or finding another solution.

After assessing the space, the team managed to lift the wardrobe up and over the bannister, getting it upstairs safely in one piece.

It was a careful, practical solution that avoided unnecessary dismantling and meant the customer’s furniture ended up exactly where it needed to be. The move was completed smoothly, with the team adapting well to each challenge as it came up.
